Voltage Divider Calculator

Two resistors in series divide a voltage in proportion to their values. Solve for the output voltage or a resistor value, and get the nearest standard E12/E24 resistor pair for any target ratio.

How It Works

The output is taken across R2, the bottom resistor:

Vout = Vin × R2 ÷ (R1 + R2)

The same current flows through both resistors: I = Vin ÷ (R1 + R2). Smaller total resistance means a stiffer divider (less affected by the load) but more wasted power; larger values save power but are more sensitive to loading. A common rule of thumb is to make the divider current about 10× the current drawn by the load.

The standard-pair mode scans all E24 × E24 combinations (and the E12 subset) to find the pair whose ratio is closest to your target, which is often more accurate than rounding each resistor separately.
